The Jungfern bridge is the oldest surviving bridge in the city and also the only one of the previous nine identical bascule bridges.  It was probably built in 1701 by Martin Grünberg , at least this is the chroniclers Friedrich Nicolai reported in 1786. Multiple renovations in 1954, 1967 and 1979 ensured the preservation of the historic building, the last time being basic repairs made ​​1998/1999.
