The ECC is located in a listed building of the former Askania works. It was built between 1939 and 1941 according to plans by the Berlin architects Richard Schubert.
Askania builds aircraft equipment in the building. In 1942, during the Second World War, the site was expanded for armaments production.
The new town hall of the Weissensee district has been in the Askaniahaus for a short time since 1945. In 1946 the Soviet military administration cleared the house to use it themselves.
From 1953 to 1990, the Ministry for State Security (Stasi) housed its personal and property security services in the former industrial building. About 3800 employees work there. After the fall of the Wall, a large Stasi weapons depot was found in the brick building: hand grenades and rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns and pistols, in the middle of the city. In 1990, the Pankow District Office moved into parts of the building.
The creative town of Weißensee has been located in a large part of the factory complex since 2005. We have made it our task to develop a cultural and commercial center on this historic site, which offers designers, artists and entrepreneurs an attractive location.
