The Round House consists of a circular building with a hub in the middle for joining the star-shaped sidings for the locomotives. It has one or more entrances from the outside and it is completely covered to protect the hub from the elements.
Sometimes the buildings were at the beginning of the railway and equipped with a crane. The construction of the round houses was limited mainly to the 19th Century, common in Europe and North America railway junctions but with the procurement of locomotives most prolonged they were abandoned. In Germany there are only two roundhouses.
