The Nazi's megalomania of Hitler and Albert Speer was sometimes not able to deal with reality in order to change totally the topography of Berlin to arrive to the dream/nightmere of "Germania". Unfortunately in this quest, unimaginable mistakes were made and one of these was to create buildings so big and heavy that the city of Berlin (which floats on water and mud) can not handle. In the city just ONE of the buildings of Alber Speer (architect and then Minister of Armaments and War Production for the Third Reich, very close to Hitler), which is considered as an Epic Fail: the Schwerbelastungskörper, the heavy load-bearing body, a large concrete cylinder which was a test to understand if it was possible to build the Triumphal Arch, planned by the couple. Of couse the experiment itself fails and the cylinder starts very fast to sink of 20cm in 3 years.
Because of nearby apartment buildings the structure could not be demolished with explosives at the end of World War II, and since 1995 it has been protected as a historic monument.
